Meta Platforms, a US-based technology giant and owner of social media sites Facebook and Instagram, is planning another multi-billion-dollar artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in the US South, according to sources.
National news reported that the scheme is called ‘Project Sucre’ and is planned for a 2,250-acre (911-hectare) site on agricultural property in Richland Parish, Louisiana, US. According to local public notices, the firm Laidley is coordinating the programme.
Reports also noted a term sheet signed between Laidley and the Northwest Louisiana Finance Authority (a public trust organisation), which signifies the investment is in the range of US$5 billion and $10 billion. Local news reported that officials expect the figure to be closer to $5 billion.
As recently as last month, an energy company filed an application to build a 2.23GW natural gas capacity plant adjacent to the Richland Parish site to service a customer’s data centre site.
Meta has not yet commented on the news.
